Crowning glory! The various hats of the QE2 monarchy, yall—in honor of her Diamond Jubilee. Let us know which is your favorite. (We’re partial to her vintage-swim-cap-rubber-flower-hat phase, ourselves.)
When the Associated Press said they’d no longer condemn the use of the adverb “hopefully” in their style guide, most people shrugged. But the announcement was a red flag to people who have made the adverb the biggest bugaboo of English usage over the last 50 years.
Hopefully we’ll get some good responses…. What do you think?

So I’m not totally crazy after all. I draw ampersands in all these different ways and when my grandmother asked me what my three with two dots meant I was taken aback. It’s funny how we write certain symbols and assume that everyone has knows them. Yet, I have no idea where I learned different ways of indicating ‘and’ or when I started using them. Life’s a mystery.

Godspell
Listening to the original cast recording of Godspell on vinyl I picked up in Lübeck, Germany. There’s really no beating this recording or this record cover. Carefully transporting this back over the Atlantic before I even bought my record player was worth it. I wonder how the new cast would compare. They should put out a record so I can compare and I’m not talking a digital recording, I mean a good old vinyl. PLEASE! :)

BRIGHT WOOLS, LISLE, GO NORTH AND SOUTH
“A rush of colored legs is likely to be encountered anywhere this year. These wool hose are being worn for skiing with the new short ski skirts, for outdoor skating, and for all casual wear with country tweeds. Youngsters may substitute them for the knee length hose they loved but many boys hated. Older women who blushed at the thought of naked knees are pouncing on them because they are gay and practical. The vivid lisle hose with matching gloves are the giddiest note at southern resorts, day and night.”
